Abstract
Value creation is urgent to enhance sustained and sustainable economic and social development. Innovation creates new value but how can we undertake it, having in mind the economic and social development, when more than half of the world population suffers from some form of poverty or marginalization? The aim of this paper is to make a theoretical review of how to combine technological innovation with social entrepreneurship —as a means of doing business from and to the base of the population—, to elucidate a study proposal for identifying key elements that enable communities interact in a globalized market to improve their living conditions. This proposal is based on a model of intrinsic empowerment to overcome barriers and enhance psychosocial development in collaboration with the actors involved in innovation processes.
